How much importance do you place on your core values?

If you had a member of staff who brought in the most business but their general behaviours didn’t align with your workplace values, what would you do?

Should values be held as highly as KPIs and performance metrics to truly be embedded in the organisation?

Most businesses have core values. These values define the beliefs at the core of a company’s strategy. They are clearly stated principles about the organisation’s vision, mission, and principles. They define the culture of the business.

If the core values define the culture, then it may only take one outlier to rock the boat and impact trust and engagement throughout the rest of the business.

“To really take hold core values need to be integrated into every employee-related process - hiring methods, performance management systems, criteria for promotions and rewards - even dismissal policies.” Marmalade Fish

Assessing your core values.

According to Brené Brown “Living into our values means that we do more than profess our values, we practice them. We walk our talk—we are clear about what we believe and hold important, and we take care that our intentions, words, thoughts, and behaviours align with those beliefs.”

You would like to see a long list of core values wouldn’t you. We’ve got you covered…

I recently listened to the Dare to Lead podcast, of a special series on Brené’s new book, Strong Ground, where Brené and Adam Grant dig into the origins of Strong Ground and what clear values can mean for individuals, teams, and organisations. I found it enlightening and would highly recommend you listen to their discussion.
